The "Red Zone" is that highly contested battleground between the end zone and the 20-yard-line, where NFL opponents struggle to cross or defend the goal line.
But at Heinz Field, the "Red Zone" means much more, to the delight of 65,000 fans packing the home of the Pittsburgh Steelers. When the Steelers move into their opponents' "red zone," two 35-foot-long Heinz Ketchup bottles atop the Jumbotron scoreboard eight tons of neon, fiberglass and fun tilt downward and flip their lids.
And then those bottles fill the scoreboard's "Heinz Red Zone" with the virtual equivalent of 1,664,000 fluid ounces of Heinz Ketchup...enough to add zest to approximately 3.2 million hotdogs, or coat the field with 3/4-inches of ketchup!
The process stirs up the fans and adds an extra dash of excitement to the game. So next time you watch the Steelers play at Heinz Field, keep one eye on those bottles...because when they start to pour, the Steelers are ready to pour it on!
